Missouri State University
SMASH Alliance
SMASH stands for Students of Missouri State University Against Smoking Hazards. We are a peer education program that promotes awareness of the dangers of second-hand smoke. Our members work to decrease smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke in our community through education, advocacy, and community involvement.
Our students encourage their peers to learn about the many negative health risks attributed to second-hand smoke, the lies used by the tobacco industry to recruit new smokers, and how to take advantage of cessation services available on our campus. The students also work with campus and community leaders to advocate for healthy smoke-free environments.
What do we do?
- EDUCATION: We present educational interactive programs on tobacco. We provide pamphlets, articles, websites, and other information to promote awareness of the dangers of tobacco products and how to access resources available for those who want to quit.
- INVOLVEMENT: We collaborate with other peer groups to promote awareness on campus and in the community.
