Daniel R. Longo, Sc.D., is Professor and Director of Research in the Department of Family Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va. A former professor of Family and Community Medicine at University of Missouri-Columbia, Dr. Longo has taught and conducted research in a variety of community health policy areas including workplace tobacco policies and tobacco cessation, access to care, quality improvement, patient safety, and consumer/patient use of health care information. His studies on tobacco in the workplace, funded by grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, are published in the Journal of the American Medical Association and Tobacco Control. He is the immediate past editor of the international Journal of Tobacco Induced Diseases and former member of the first executive committee of the Society for Prevention of Tobacco Induced Diseases. His work has been presented internationally. Dr. Longo has served as quality of care advisor to the Missouri Department of Health and as a consultant to hospitals, health care associations, a variety of federal agencies, medical schools and hospitals. He is the author of more than 100 articles and book chapters, and author or editor of 10 books.
