Anti-smoking group campaigns at MSU
SMASH, Students of Missouri State University Against Smoking Hazards, will host a Valentine's Day event appropriately called "Kiss Me Campaign 2008" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today on the second floor of Plaster Student Union on the MSU campus.
Free T-shirts, results of an on-campus survey, and information on SMASH and the dangers of secondhand smoke will be available at the event booth. The event is also being held at three other universities in Missouri.
"Our theme for the event is 'Just for the Health of It' and we are excited to creatively promote the health benefits of not smoking," said SMASH adviser Satish Kumar Gedela.
"Our survey results say that if all things were equal, 87 percent of Missouri State students would prefer to kiss a nonsmoker," Gedela said in a news release.
SMASH is a student-led organization at Missouri State University working to educate the campus community about the dangers of secondhand smoke and to promote clean air for everyone. The organization is dedicated to reducing exposure to secondhand smoke, according to a SMASH news release.
