A bar owner in downtown Springfield is given an award for his no-smoking policy.
Bob Martin owns Nathan P. Murphys and received the award from "Breathe Easy, Springfield."
Martin never smoked but he developed a lung disease. His doctor found out Martin had been running a nightclub for 27 years and believed second hand smoke was the
cause of his illness.
That's when Martin decided his club would go smoke free. He says his customers appreciate it. "It has not hurt the business. We've had positive impact and feedback.
People appreciate being able to come in to a smoke-free environment."
Murphy's is the first downtown, live music venue of it's type to go smoke-free.
